In 2005 the Venezuelan – American Chamber of Industry and Trade, VenAmCham, created the Frank Amador Award to recognize the work of journalists who day by day contribute to the strengthening of the U.S.A. and Venezuela’s relationships.

The name of “Frank Amador” was chosen as a tribute to former VenAmCham’s executive director from 1969 to 1985. Amador was a pioneer in promoting better relationships between the U.S. and Latina America. Already in 1936, Amador arranged good will tours to Mexico for U.S. business executives and university students.

As Edmond Saade, VenAmCham’s president, stated at the 2006 awards ceremony, the Frank Amador Award is“recognition of the work done by our Venezuelan journalists when they point out the links joining both nations.

Expanding and promoting advantages of the relationship between Venezuela and the U.S. is one of the main objectives of VenAmCham’s Frank Amador Award. Another objective is to support and recognize the work of Venezuelan journalists, encouraging them to publish articles about business, economic or trade relationships between both countries or about the Business Social Responsibility of U.S. companies in Venezuela and Venezuelan companies in the U.S.

The award has the support of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, Communication Media Committee and the invaluable support of The U.S. Embassy in Caracas.

In this new edition of the award, VenAmCham includes a special prize for articles about Social Responsibility, considering the importance of promoting CSR as a solid ground for the strengthening and growth of communities.

Participation increases
The competition for VenAmCham’s Frank Amador Award included more than twenty papers from media journalists. This year, Liza López from El Nacional; Yiralí Pérez from La Verdad (Maracaibo, Zulia state) and Jessica Morales from Globovisión were declared the winners Their articles were reviewed by a distinguished jury formed by Adolfo Herrera, UCV’s Social Communication School Director; Alda Da Silva, Monteavila University’s Social Communication School Director; Robert Bottome, Veneconomía’s Editor and member of VenAmCham’s Media Committee; Antonio Serfaty, Union Radio’s Vice president and member of VenAmCham’s Media Committee; Edward Jardine, Procter & Gamble’s President and President of the Social Alliance Committee, Brian Penn, Press Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela; Rodger Farrell, member of VenAmCham’s Board of Directors; Carlos Tejera, VenAmCham’s General Manager and Margarita Montero, VenAmCham’s Social Alliance Committee.

The award’s recipients will complete a visit program to the U.S. that includes access to politicians, institutions of great relevance in the social and economic world and outstanding media in the country. This tour is possible thanks to the support of the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela.

Recognition of the work done by three journalists
VenAmCham’s award ceremony was quite emotional, in which trophies were given to each winner. Edmond Saade, VenAmCham’s president, welcomed the assistants and highlighted the importance of the daily work carried out by journalists specially informing about economic and trade relationships between both countries and about what companies are doing regarding CSR, their commitment and responsibility towards communities.

Carlos Tejera, VenAmCham’s General Manager, was the ceremony’s master offering audience details about the importance of this award.

Kevin Whitaker, U.S. Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Venezuela and Edward Jardine, VenAmCham’s Social Alliance Committee President joined Saade to hand out the awards.

To stay ahead of time The Frank Amador Award is possible thanks to the support of companies and media that believe in the importance of this award and that specially support the Venezuelan journalists.
